“出花园”是潮汕地区独有的传统成人礼，象征孩子告别童年、迈向成年。仪式当天，孩子会穿新衣、红木屐，佩戴石榴花，并由家人设宴庆贺，吃上一颗烹好的鸡头，寓意前程似锦、出人头地。

相传此习俗源于明代嘉靖年间潮州状元林大钦的故事。少年林大钦家境贫寒，买不起红鞋，只能穿红木屐。一天，他遇到一位老人举联出题：“雄鸡头上髻”，林大钦对出“牝羊颔下须”，才思敏捷，赢得一只公鸡。父亲将鸡宰了，把鸡头奖给他，象征“独占鳌头”。后来他果然高中状元，从此，这一故事被视为吉兆，演化为“出花园”仪式中穿红屐、吃鸡头的传统。

随着时代变迁，仪式形式虽简化，但文化意义仍深深扎根于潮人心中。而在2025年8月31日，新加坡揭阳会馆将于醉华林俱乐部举办潮州成年礼“出花园”仪式，诚邀您共同见证这一珍贵的文化传承！

Leaving the Garden is a unique coming-of-age tradition in Chaoshan culture, marking a child’s transition into adulthood. On this day, youths wear new clothes, red wooden clogs, and a pomegranate flower, and eat the head of a cooked rooster—symbolizing a bright future and success.

The custom is said to originate from the story of Lin Daqin, a Chaozhou scholar who, despite growing up in poverty, impressed an old man with a clever poetic response and was rewarded with a rooster. His father gave him the chicken head as a sign of encouragement. Lin later became a top scholar, and the ritual of eating the rooster’s head became a symbol of ambition and achievement.

Though simpler today, the tradition still carries deep meaning. On August 31, 2025, the Singapore Kityang Huay Kuan invites you to witness this meaningful Chu Hua Yuan ceremony at Chui Huay Lim Club.
