南华故事
Our Story

南华潮剧社的历史可追溯至1963年由一群志同道合的潮剧爱好者所成立的“南华儒剧社”。当年成立的宗旨纯为联络同好之情谊，研究戏曲，弘扬潮人优秀传统文化。

南华多年来坚守弘扬潮剧传统的理念，同时积极寻求卓越表演艺术领域的突破。除了
呈献经典演出剧目之外，南华也大胆尝试创新，通过结合现代科技及融合不同流派等
方式，提高观众的参与度及提升他们的感官体验。

南华亦不遗余力开展无数场对外演出和工作坊，以把触角伸向更多观众，尤其是年轻
一代。南华并积极服务社会公益事业，参与各项义演。

近年来，南华更在国际舞台上大放异彩，足迹遍布中国、南韩、柬埔寨、马来西亚和
德国，也在潮剧发祥地中国广东省，潮汕多次演出，皆获好评。

南华潮剧社于2015年4月获准为慈善机构。2018年庆祝成立55周年之际，南华易名“南华潮剧社”，誓言要在更明确的定位下继续努力，带领新加坡潮剧精益求精，更上一层楼！2020年，南华潮剧社非常荣幸获得由国家文物局颁布的首届 “新加坡非物质文化遗产
传承人奖” 。也于2022年获得中国广东潮剧院的肯定，受邀成为 “广东潮剧院新加坡潮剧
传承中心” 。

Founded in 1963 by avid fans of Teochew Opera, Nam Hwa Opera (NHO) has grown into one of Singapore’s most prominent and prolific Teochew Opera companies. NHO mission is to preserve, develop, and promote traditional Teochew Opera as an important heritage of Singapore. NHO is also home to the Nam Hwa Teochew Music Ensemble and Yeo Khee Lim Teochew Culture Research Centre. NHO celebrates its 57th anniversary in 2020.

NHO champions artistic excellence in Teochew Opera. Alongside presentations of classics from the traditional repertoire in our core performances, we also boldly experiment with new genres and technologies to enhance audience engagement and experiences.

We believe that Teochew Opera should remain a part of our everyday lives. As such, NHO’s numerous workshops and outreach performances nurtures new performers and audiences amongst the young and young at heart. Ensuring that everyone has access to our quality programmes is also important to us. NHO regularly presents programmes at schools, community spaces, voluntary welfare organisations and other charitable institutions.

NHO also promotes the Singapore brand of Teochew Opera through international performances and cultural exchanges. On top of hosting international performers, NHO has performed in countries such as South Korea, Cambodia, Malaysia and Germany. NHO has also shared the stage on multiple occasions with Teochew Opera doyens in the artform’s birthplace of Guangdong, China.

With the support of a dedicated and driven community of artists, audiences, leaders, members and sponsors, NHO continues to inspire and reach new heights with Singapore Teochew Opera, Music and Culture.

As a non-profit organisation since 2015 with charity and Institution of a Public Character (IPC) status, Nam Hwa Opera’s mission is to preserve and promote traditional Teochew heritage in arts and culture. In 2020, we are being conferred the inaugural “The Stewards of Intangible Cultural Heritage Award” by the National Heritage Board. Our works has not only been recognized by the local audience and authorities but also professional institutes from overseas. In 2022, Guangdong Chao Opera Theatre from China invited Nam Hwa Opera Limited to jointly establish the “Guangdong Chao Opera Institute Singapore Teochew Opera Heritage Centre”.

新加坡潮剧历史记录簿
IMPRINTS IN TIME: THE HISTORYOF TEOCHEW OPERA IN SINGAPORE

《潮影寻迹—新加坡潮剧历史记录》是南华继2016年出版了《潮声留影-新加坡潮州戏曲回忆簿》后的另一本历史专书。留影后继续寻迹，此书主要叙述新加坡潮州戏曲的发展以及南华潮剧社的55年社史。编辑团队希望以南华的55年“小历史”见证新加坡潮剧的发展状况以及未来展望。
“Imprints in Time – A History of Teochew Opera in Singapore” is Nam Hwa Opera’s follow-up to its 2016 publication “A Pictorial History of Teochew Opera in Singapore”. The new book traces the development of Teochew opera in Singapore and the 55-year journey of Nam Hwa. Despite its relatively short history, the editorial team hopes Nam Hwa’s story can help to illustrate the development of Singapore’s Teochew opera and its future.

潮影寻迹：新加坡潮剧历史记录簿
STAGES OF LIFE: AN EXHIBITION ON
HISTORY OF TEOCHEW OPERA IN SINGAPORE

《戏台人生：新加坡潮剧历史特展》是南华首次策划的巡回展，并获得新加坡文物局的鼎力支持。精心设计的展板结合多媒体的运用，主要以不同的戏台类型展现出新加坡潮剧不同时期的发展面貌以及南华的过去、现在和未来。此设计是希望借由不同的戏台类型勾勒出新加坡潮剧的时光隧道，带领新加坡国人一同回味本地潮剧辉煌的过去，放眼无限的未来。
“Stages of Life: A History of Teochew Opera in Singapore” is Nam Hwa Opera’s first roving exhibition, and is supported by the National Heritage Board, Our SG Fund and Singapore Bicentennial. Designed to be interactive and accessible, “Stages of Life” integrates multimedia into panels that represent different types of performance stages Singapore Teochew Opera has been presented, from the iconic thatched roof stage to the modern-day digital platform. “Stages of Life” charts the development of Singapore’s Teochew opera through different phases alongside Nam Hwa Opera’s journey.

Nam Hwa Teochew Music Ensemble

南华潮乐团成立于2017年10月19号，虽然刚成立不久，但每次演出总能以专业的水准、认真的态度，把曲目精彩的呈现给观众，得到观众的好评。
Nam Hwa Music Ensemble was established on 19 October 2017 with a focus on the research, musical arrangement and development of the Teochew musical heritage.

乐组致力于研究、整理、创作、演奏潮州音乐、演唱潮曲等具有潮汕特色的文艺节目。乐队现拥有一批资深和年轻的音乐员，始终坚持传承发展，致力于创新，重视人才培训，有良好的艺术生产环境和较强的艺术生产力。
Even as a young group, the Ensemble received commendations from audience members for its professionalism and quality performances. The Ensemble comprises veteran Teochew music practitioners as well as young musicians with Chinese Orchestral backgrounds.
Nam Hwa Music Ensemble believes in nurturing young talents to preserve and promote Teochew music by providing musicians with a holistic and inclusive learning environment.

杨启霖潮州文化研究中心
YEO KHEE LIM TEOCHEW CULTURE RESEARCH CENTRE

杨启霖潮州文化研究中心是设立在南华潮剧社内的文化资源中心。
Yeo Khee Lim Teochew Culture Research Centre is a resource hub located in Nam Hwa Opera.

本中心是新加坡首个以潮州文化为主的研究中心。我们致力于让更多人，无论国籍、籍贯或老少，了解潮州文化的起源与潮州文化在新加坡的传承与演变
The Centre is the first Teochew resource-based research centre in Singapore. The aim is to let more people, regardless of nationality, ethnic group or age, have a better understanding of the origins of the Teochew culture and how it has evolved over the years in Singapore.

本中心提供最广泛的潮州文化资源，包括与潮州文化相关的书籍、戏曲的演出刊物、会馆与社团纪念特刊、数码化的黑胶潮州戏曲音档等等。除此之外，我们也提供新加坡与海外潮州籍贯作者的书籍和作品，让他们的文字和创作能得到大众的关注。
The Centre has an extensive collection of both local and overseas Teochew culture-related resources, ranging from Teochew culture related books and magazines to Teochew Opera vinyl records that have been converted to digital tracks. The Centre also has a collection of work produced and written by local and overseas Teochew ethnic artists and writers, providing a platform to showcase their work.

本中心以杨启霖先贤命名是为了承袭他收藏家的精神与对收藏的热爱，也借此纪念他对于保留与推动文化的贡献。杨启霖的儿子，杨应法与杨应群也以父亲的名义，捐赠了部分袖海楼里的珍藏给本中心，让本中心的资源更齐全。
The Centre is named after Mr Yeo Khee Lim to carry on his legacy as a collector, as well as commemorate him and his efforts in preserving culture. His sons, Mr Yeo Eng Koon and Mr Yeo Eng Huat have also donated a part of the Xiu Hai Lou collection to the Centre in name of his father, which further enriched the collection in the Centre.
