It was a time of great upheaval with the disintegration of the Yuan dynasty. Eager for victory over his rival Chen You Liang, Zhu Yuan Zhang promised Chen’s power-hungry subordinate Yun Wu Yang the title of the Ultimate Swordsman if he can steal the legendary Kun Wu sword from Chen. In the midst of the heated battle, Yun accidentally pushed his pregnant wife into a valley in a tragic twist of fate.
Having emerged from the battle victorious, Zhu established the Ming Dynasty and gained control of the country. However, Zhu remained wary of Chen’s influence over Yun and refused to fulfil his promise to Yun. In despair and defeat, Yun decided to live the rest of his life as a recluse on the Helan Mountains.
Unknown to Yun, his wife and unborn child survived the fall. 19 years later, Yun’s wife heard of her husband’s location and instructed their son to enact her revenge. However, Yun’s son was almost killed when he fell into a trap. However, he was saved by Yun’s daughter from his second marriage. Unaware that they were half-siblings, they both fell deeply in love.
In a bid to regain his broken alliance with Yun, Zhen sent an imperial envoy to the mountains to invite him down the mountain. To stop Yun, Yun’s wife killed the envoy in cold blood. On that fateful evening, the family was reunited and the truth finally came to light. Finally realising the identity of her lover, Yun’s daughter was blinded by despair and fell off a cliff to her death.
Helpless and despairing with grief, Yun atoned for his misdeed by impaling himself with the legendary Kun Wu sword in front of his wife.
